Zukovich, Morhard & Wade, LLC.
Zukovich, Morhard & Wade, LLC (ZMW) is a design and build engineering firm that specializes in projects involving explosives, propellants and pyrotechnics and has extensive experiences in explosive and detonator manufacturing.
Since we formed ZMW in 1999, we have provided technical services for most of the world's multinational industrial explosives manufacturers. In fact, ZMW partners has had the privileged to have worked been in more than 500 different explosives manufacturing facilities
in the US and in more than 77 countries world-wide.
Technical Services
Explosives formulation, production technology, design engineering and installation of new or upgraded industrial and government explosives production facilities;
Emulsion explosives technology, formulations, equipment, process management and plant installation;
Studies involving explosives sales and marketing, explosives safety, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Explosives Hazards and Operability (HAZOP) Reviews;
Hazards classification facilitation of new explosives substances and articles in accordance with the United Nations standards: “The Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods” "Manual of Tests and Criteria".
Regulatory interface involving energetic materials (China, Europe, US, Canada, Russia, Australia & New Zealand)
Expert witness testimony and legal support on cases involving explosives or rock blasting
DMNB explosives detection agents and forensic explosives identification technology
World Class Qualifications
Design, permitting, regulatory compliance, public affairs, fabrication, commissioning, maintenance and technical support for forty-eight (48) new or upgraded explosives and propellant manufacturing facilities over the careers of the ZMW Principal Partners.
Our partners US Patents form the basis for almost a third of the world’s nine million tons of emulsion explosives consumed globally each year.
Chosen by the US Government’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Alliant TechSystems, Inc. to solve technical problem of recycling former Soviet Union SS-24 and SS-19 ICBM propellant into emulsion explosives in Ukraine.
Provides technical services for manufacturing and safety for eight of the top ten multinational explosives producers and the top three largest multinational mining companies.
UN Hazards Classification for more than forty new explosives substances and articles.
Observed explosives and detonator manufacturing in more than 500 US and foreign government and industry explosive, propellant and detonator production plants.
Principal Partners
Charles Wade invented the first detonator sensitive and the first underground permissible emulsion explosive and several other emulsion and water gel explosives. Charles is an expert in emulsion explosives formulation, explosives chemistry and explosives safety.
Bob Morhard has extensive expertise in explosives and detonator manufacturing, explosives safety, blasting applications, UN hazards testing and packaging design, expert witness testimony, compliance audits, explosives sales and marketing. Bob
has
extensive expertise in explosives manufacturing systems, facility design,
construction and start up of new explosives production facilities.
Bob serves on many international committees and boards and is a full member of the USA National Fire Protection Association NFPA 495 and NFPA 498 Explosives Technical Committees. Bob is the author of the textbook:
Explosives and Rock Blasting, and has published many technical papers internationally on explosives.
Tom Zukovich has extensive expertise in explosives manufacturing systems, design, and construction and start up of new explosives production facilities. Designed, and managed the successful installation and start up of the majority of emulsion explosives manufacturing plants presently in use. Tom is an expert for the design of emulsion explosives handling equipment, new processes for blending emulsions with other explosives and propellants, and new processes for packaging emulsion blends.
Charles Wade, Bob Morhard and Tom Zukovich each have many key current and expired US Patents and Foreign Patents related to emulsion, water gel and other explosives; explosives security; emulsion explosives manufacturing; and explosives disposal.

Changsha Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, in Hunan Province, China.
This outstanding photograph is an example of the advanced
ZMW
emulsion explosives technology t
hat results in an ultra small and evenly distributed emulsion
droplet. With
droplets ranging from 960 nanometers to 3.44 micrometer, this emulsion
matrix contains a very efficient and intimate arrangement of fuels and
oxidizers, assuring a high quality detonation and a long shelf life
with no segregation. The emulsion matrix was produced with a ZMW formulation for underground coal mining or permissible explosive
fabricated with ZMW designed equipment at the Changzhi Production Plant
in Shanxi Province.
